Construction Services

Our philosophy is to bring strong planning, scheduling and project management to every project. We put extra effort into training and development of our personnel and we make sure they have well maintained equipment that is properly suited for the job at hand. Finally, nothing is more important than the safety of our workforce and the public (our safety program is discussed in more detail elsewhere on this website).  Each of these components are important so that (1) we are capable of successfully completing our projects in a manner that exceeds the expectation of our clients and (2) we are capable of recognizing and overcoming unforeseen obstacles that might arise on the project.

The primary business of The Scruggs Company is heavy construction and site work. We pursue projects in various sizes including projects billing less than $10,000 up to projects billing over $120,000,000. Depending on the type of project, the geographic location might be anywhere in the Southeastern United States. On a typical project, we provide all sitework services with in-house forces including clearing, grading, storm drainage, water/sanitary and paving.  Normally, we are involved as a prime contractor, contracting  directly with the owner, but we also work as a subcontractor on some projects.

Private/Commercial Projects:
These projects include parking lots, subdivisions and industrial facilities that are typically located in South Georgia/North Florida (i.e. and within a 75-mile radius of our asphalt plants located at Valdosta, Thomasville or Lenox).   Typical clients include owners,  general contractors and Industrial Authorities. We work closely with our clients from concept to construction to arrive at solutions which meet quality standards, time constraints and project budgets. 

Roadway/State Routes:
Most of this work originates from local and state government agencies.  Projects include asphalt roadway resurfacing, intersection improvements, passing lanes, reconstruction and paving of dirt roads, major road widening/improvements and new road construction. The ability to consistently meet or exceed DOT quality standards is required, as is an understanding of and dedication to meeting all regulatory clauses and requirements of governmental contracts.

Airfield/Interstate:
These are usually the largest and sometimes most complex projects. Work on airfields and interstate highways require extensive planning and preparation before the work begins. Attention to quality control is a must as is special consideration to safety for both workers and the public. Many of these projects involve heavy concrete paving and the geographic area includes all of the Southeastern United States. Typical clients are municipal airports, the Department of Defense and other governmental agencies.

Support Facilities and Equipment:
We own and operate three asphalt plants, two portable concrete plants, a fleet of about 50 heavy trucks and numerous grading/paving equipment units.  Maintenance and repairs are handled in-house; service records and preventative maintenance schedules are electronically tracked for each individual vehicle and equipment unit. Our on site shop provides ample working area as well as storage for supplies and office space for various personnel.
